Editing

As the shooting day had finished the next step was to digitalise our footage and get it safely on to the media server in editing suite in order to carry on with the production of the pop video.

For the editing we had used Final Cut Pro and as we worked with the programme previously last year it was fairly familiar and only some extra bits to be done. Starting with the existing footage we slowly but surely started putting it together. First of all putting the storyboard that we shot over the soundtrack , then looking through the shots and putting them together. It was hard to put a lot of lip singing in as not much of it was shot , as the actor did not know all the words exactly and in some parts the singing just doesn’t look good.

As we had finished the outlay of the video we stated getting all the shots together making sure it makes sense and works together.

Shoot day

We had a full shoot day beginning at 8 am and finishing at 6 pm. We used 2 cameras , the Sony PD170 and the JVC1500, with Sennheiser tripod. We also used tracking equipment.

We filmed our singer in performance within a narrative of a mental hospital in the studio during the morning. The afternoon was spent on location on nearest by towns and buildings.

We began our shoot on the 16th of November 2009 and first half of the day we have spent in the studio. The day before that we had to prepare the whole studio set and make sure everything is there in place and ready to role first thing in the morning. Starting at around 9:30 we slowly worked our way to 12:00 and straight away went to our location in Ewhurst place as we where running late. Although it was challenging in the studio and time consuming we caught up shooting in Ewhurst and after having a quick lunch break moved out to our third location in a near by village called Cranleigh. This was our major location were we shot most of our video and sequences .

Our final location was the Peaslake house where we also took sometime to set up the equipment such as the tracking and had to shoot from many different positions.

There had been some difficulties in our video. First and major problem was the weather. Our video meant to show the contrast between the two worlds very grey , dark and miserable hospital and the sunny , happy and joyful dream world. We really hoped for the sun and warm colours however in return we got some rain and freezing cold weather.

Second major problem we came across was the dropping out of our two actors the protagonist (lead singer) and the nurse. Both of which had to be quickly replaced by our team members. I had to step in and do the acting of the main character singing and it was very challenging in both ways , learning the lyrics on the day and also lack of acting did not help. However it was all compensated by our other lead character the girl from the dreams who is a great actor and knows what she was doing bringing the confidence in all of our team.

On the shoot day except being the actor I have also tried some camera work in the shots I wasn’t involved. I believe that gave me a great deal of experience and new knowledge.

Although there were some difficulties I believe the shoot day went pretty well without any catastrophes and instead I believe we have enjoyed our selves and we very productive and communicative. There was one particular shot that had really boost our pop video where the two characters are standing in the middle of the field and the camera is spinning around them.
Magazine

As our song being friendly and not filthy in anyway this expands the target audience. If an exact audience stream must be said it would be for 15-30 years old males and females. However it may be seen that the song is more appropriate and liked by the males.
The appropriate type of magazine would be Q. Its main stream audience is younger generations which appreciate pop music and are into the type of fashion music and extras to it.

Rule of thirds

The rule of thirds is very important when it comes up to choosing the magazine front page. It is important to lead the eyes in to the correct place were you want the audience to look when they skim through the magazines. It is crucial to find the point were it would attract the audience the most in order to maximize the selling and knowledge of the product.
In my magazine advert I thought of basically bringing the main point out of the story and having the two main actors the lead singer and the female actress to be both in the picture. Both of them lying down head to head looking into their eyes. I have chosen the picture from shooting day( as a steel photo ) the photo needs a bit of adjusting in order to attract more audience. Just to make it a little more intriguing and exiting for the audience.

Colors
The color is very important factor it explains a lot behind the story therefore it must be very lively, have bright colors and on the other hand have some very dull and fairly depressing colors. The reason for such contrast is due to undermining of the world and life. Light colors bring a picture of lovely life with joy and happiness. Were the world is a positive place with nothing else but entertainment and delight. This nevertheless is shown in our pop video as a dream and delusion that the poor mental patient is in fact not enjoying his life in bright and cheerful world but instead is in a dreadful place some were no one would ever dreamed of visiting. The dark , miserable and gloomy colors show the real life in which the actor has to live and survive everyday. Being drugged and locked up is not pleasant and the only way of for him is dreaming of something happy something that can keep him going through each day. Therefore the colors of the Advertisement in the magazine must reflect all the points shown in the song

and the pop video and in order to represent that to the audience the best way is to find a contrast between the two , miserable darkness and love joy colorfulness.
However I have chosen to use the bright side of the story in order to attract the audience which later on eventually would find out about the whole plot and realize the truth.

Font
The font can not be just a usual one which every other person used in everyday life. In order to promote a peace of art ( in this case a song ) it is vital to create a center of attention by any means in every way possible. Even little things are important to think through. The font idea might be Haettenschweiler ( heading 2) I believe it is a fairly simple font but which carries the message to everyone fairly easy and
quickly which would attract the attention and eyes of audience at least to look once and read the headline.

Mise en scene

The mise en scene would be the actual place of the shooting , which would be the field. It represents the reality of the pop video and shows the song. It is dreamy so as the clothes and the photo its self.

The Gaze

The gaze Is important to represent the interest of the audience. It depends on what the audience or the buyer of the magazine is looking for. Who is it a male or female all of that matters due to different genders thinking about different things in different ways. For example a male would think of a half naked woman as a sex object were as the female character would try to solve or visualize the story behind the photo and the reason after it.

LYRICS for Walking on a dream

Walking On a dream
How can I explain
Talking to myself
Will I see again

We are always running for the thrill of it thrill of it
Always pushing up the hill searching for the thrill of it
On and on and on we are calling out and out again
Never looking down I’m just in awe of what’s in front of me

Is it real now
When two people become one
I can feel it
When two people become one

Thought I’d never see
The love you found in me
Now it’s changing all the time
Living in a rhythm where the minutes working overtime

We are always running for the thrill of it thrill of it
Always pushing up the hill searching for the thrill of it
On and on and on we are calling out and out again
Never looking down I’m just in awe of what’s in front of me

Is it real now
When two people become one
I can feel it
When two people become one

Is it real now
When two people become one
I can feel it
When two people become one

Catch me I’m falling down
Catch me I’m falling down

Don’t stop just keep going on
I’m your shoulder lean upon
So come on deliver from inside
All we got is tonight that is right till first light

Is it real now
When two people become one
I can feel it
When two people become one

Research and Development
As a group we had finally agreed on our idea and developed it completely. As a group we have decided to stop on the Bang Empire of the Sun and the song called Walking on a dream .Its is now or final decision and we have received a Green Light to go on with it.
The Timeline
The length of the song is around 3 minutes 20 seconds in this time the characters are moving between narrative and performance. Its is very well laid out so it isn’t boring for the audience and also they do understand what is going on.
Storyboard
As well as everything else we have done a storyboard that is out of 18 pictures with explanations of what is happening , when and how. Its tells you were the camera is moving , where the person is going and what objects are moved or opened (I .e a door being opened)
Stills of Locations
Different shots would be shot at a different location. We have found couple of locations and the outside shots would be shot in couple of places Cranleigh , woods and field. Also some of the special shots would be taken in either Studio or At the Peacelake house.
Picture Composition Rules
There are many composition rules that we should be looking out to. In fact a very important rule is the Rule of Thirds. This rule shows you were you are meant to focus and shows the main bit of the shot. As well as that the Camera movement is important. Its is well known in the Film industry that if the camera is moving from Left to Right that shows us the good character and gives us positive emotions however if the camera is moving from the opposite Right to Left that leads us to a thought that this man/woman is a antagonist or in other words the person we do not feel sorry for and who is the bad person.
Pop Video Clip

Pop video 2009/2010

Pop Video 2009/2010
The Brief

As a group we are to develop a concept, image and brand for a new singer, group or band and develop and producer their first pop video, their first DVD cover and their first magazine advertisment. In order to establish the group and especially their image and brand for a particular target audience.

The Five Stages of Production For a Pop Video

Research and Development
Pre-Production
Production
Post-Production
Distribution and Exhibition through established television outlets.(Cds, DVD, internet )

1)Research and Development

Its is very important to choose a group of people , it should be a group which you are comfortable working with and get along good. As you establish a group you would like to shoot a pop video with you need to choose a track and artist it would be nicer if there wasnt a major pop video already done on the song. It is also crusual to develop the idea, make sure that is has a perfermance , narrative and possibly images.
Another big step is the Pitch. It is important to try to sell the idea to the class. In order to do so it should be well prepered. Many important bits that can be useful in order to have a good presentation to the class.
Copies of the words and have the song playing
Power point demonstration
Lyrics linked to the idea
`Storyboard (posters, sketches, floor plan )
Your target audience
Genre of the artist and their history (background)
Current image of the band
The idea and concept behind the actual video
The way you will be able to achive the idea and make it realistic , in other words make sure that you have planed everything correct and found the right locations.
Who is who in the group ? Who is director >? Camera man ? Producer?Designer ? Storyboard artist ?

2)Pre-Production

Every group will produce all the following elements for their group project Folder however for the shoot day each person will have a spasific tast and will stick to it.

Group Project Folder

Group Roles list (that will mean that there needs to be a list with all the names of all major roles tiped out such as the Director, Producer , Camera man , Chief editor, lighting desiner, studio floor manager , PROPS)

Time line is very important because a detailed timeline that illustrates how lyrics ,visual action and song structure coordinate.

A good storyboard is needed just as much a one with all technical directions, as previously instructed,(shot number, shot type, camera movement, sound track lyrics, lighting , actions, location , special effects, editing transitions.

Floor plans/lighting plans : that is the locations that the pop video will be shot at with bireyes sketches ,including rough measurments of everything .As well as that we need to show all the light sources( windows, video lights)

Shooting Schedule : List the shots as they are to be shot ,including AM /PM and Locations.

Equipment list : Full typed checklist of all technical equipment needed on the day of shoot.

Props list : this is important it should include all the items that will be needed to be used were would they be taken from and and including expensive items.Studio and location with playback , considered

Cast list: Full cast list with digital pics , MCU of each member ( also needs extra information , details about the person ie if he/she is from hurtwood to show the house)

TITLE PAGE, CONTRASTS PAGE FOR CALL SHEET

MOVEMENT ORDER PAGE if relevant

DVD COVER and MAGEZINE AD –plans for this

3)Production-The Shoot

Call Sheet for CAST and Performers few days before the actual shoot.

Words should be given out to the perfermers in advance in order for them to have time to learn them.

Every individual in the group has his spacific job however each one has to do atleast some directing and camera work.
4)Post –Production

Lead editor drives the work.

There will be a lesson a week for the editing however everyone needs to be involved and it will take up spare time as well as the time of the lesson.

The Production will be tested on audience at rough assembly and fine cut during post.

As well as everything listed abouve the CD/DVD cover and magazine advert will have to be done by this stage

5)Distribution and Exhibition

Distribution and Exhibition through
-Established television outlets (terrestrial, subscription) such as CD DVD Internet and social space, marketing sites mobile phones publicity

Imagine your pop video as a part of an INTERGRATED CROSS-MEDIA CAMPAIGN. You will need to be able to justify your video and promote the image of the band or artist and gain commercial sales.

''Quote''

''In this business the first rule is , never act out of desperation, because there is always someone out there looking to sucker you''

Our first steps

As we sorted out our group we had different ideas for songs and each one of us had a specific song that we liked. As we went through all the songs that we had chosen all of us had agreed on one specific song which each one of us liked . Infaxt we had chosen quite a popular song called ''Walking on a dream'' by '' Empire of the Sun''. As a whole we straight away liked this song as it is very energetic and gives people a positive feeling. This didnt takes very long as our group is very understanding and we get along well therefore we had no problems with agreeng with the final song that we had chosen.
Well in breif the song has a meaning of ''freedom'' In the dream were the singers are happy , possitive and just enojing the way of life.

The way our group looks at this song is not only possitive feelings with happy and imaginery world but a dream were you can escape the horriple truth of life and just enjoy the life and great things about it.
Thinking of the performance , narrative and the images we came to a conclusion that it would be a good idea if first of all the video starts of the performance as the camera goes thorough a corridor and in to a room which is a mental hospital.that is were both of our actors will be sitting. That will show us the horrible life both man and woman are stuck in. As the singing goes on the camera will shift to a different location which will be the narrative. We will have couple of location in which the preformers will be going around in the imagenary wourld with anything happening to them that they wich. Changes in locations will show the minds and the crazy thinking and feeling of freedom for the people.
The moral behind that is both of the humans are in a mental hospital, they have nothing else going for their lifes. So they imagine they go out dreaming , dreaming of great places , things and objects. All of that makes them free from the terrible thing happening to them back at their real lifes which arent possitive what so ever. This is the short and breif thinking of the idea that our group has and it may change with time but for now it is the way we see it going and we will be expanding on it but it this specific area of context.

The band , their backstory and contexts.

1)
The band had been formed only for around 2 years which isnt long for a group and they arent that famous around the world or even in London were they are originaly formed. As they arent well known that means they dont have concerts or big festivals all they do is small pubs and and small venues but unfortunatly this is starting to fade so the attraction of fans is falling. So the only thing to do is to break in to the next level of a band and start perferming. In order to do so it would be useful to make a pop video in order to show them selfs and sell their band. However they do not compose their own music but are considering more themes in their song writing.

2)
The band is more of a electric pop and not another simple indie . As their influence is David Bowie and kraftwerk. However as any other band new or old , known or unknown they will have competition at times. They might be rivals such as MGMT metronomy, passion pit, clap your hands and say yeah.

3)
Relentless records is the company that signed the band this company is quite a small company but does have influence as they do have a parent company which is EMI. This is a positive thing for this band as the company will not put so mich pressure on them. Not only on the songs that they make and play but more importantly they will have a freedom of speech on their pop video. This is important because not only they are young and creative as well as all that they are the producers of the song and therefore they know the beast of it, they know every side of the song and the best side to sell it from . That mean they will give out the most and make sure they make a pop video which will sell at the top.

4)
The song will appeal to all kinds of people from the youngest to the older ones , 14 to 25 will be the most audience attacked however the audience will adjust as the song will be loved by mny generations as it is very original and everyone has dreams with they would like to imagine and be sucked into ones up on a time.

5) The imagie will appeal on MTV , children TV etc. The images would be very colourful and bright that will mean that loads of people will enjoy it as light bight colours bring happiness to life. The narrative is the two actors escaping into the wonder world were they can do anything and be anyone which is amazing , and will atract people as they would love the motivation by the pop video and would also want to get into their dream and be who ever they want to be

Camera work on Monday 12th of January

..In our media thriller i was the camera man. As this was the first proper film or an opening of a film i made i wasn't that experienced. So i had to get some help. There was a professional film maker so i had couple of advices from him:the advices that Matt gave me were very helpful with the camera work. He told me exactly how to put the camera so there was no reflection in the mirrors, helped with the correct angles and also there was a bit in bath room were we needed a tilt and Matt CONTRIBUTED a lot to this for it to be perfect. Apart from that everything was very good with help form my teammate 'Elana' who was the director done loads and loads of work on the day to make the opening perfect. She was also choosing the points to film form and contributed a lot to camera work to make sure we have done a good job and filmed every part we need.

MY COMMENTS ON TARGET AUDIENCE FEEDBACK FROM YOUTUBE

justskiptotheend
This is probably better than the the intro to Lock Stock, I dunno, I haven't seen it in years... If Guy Ritchie had never existed, you would all be GOD. But he does. SO WHAT IS THE FUCKIN POINT??? It was made almots ten fucking years ago!!! Liam looks fierce though ;)) “

It is nice to know that someone spotted a good intro and maybe that it is even better than Lock Stock. That is only a beginning and there would be much more exiting stuff in the actual film it wouldn’t be like an ordinary gangster film such as Lock Stock or Snatch. It would be more like The Lucky Number Slevin . We wanted a different actress in our film in order to steer up the intention and be bit more creative.

SabretoothStitch
Nice visual effects on the opening you can see the similarities to gangster movies such as Lock Stock and Snatch. Music was a bit heavy and pacey in contrast to the following sequence. Obviously targeted at a broad male 15-30 age group. Certainly left wondering what is going to happen next, but as often is the case with gangster movies struggling to click with any charming aspect of the characters.

I am glad that our sequence left people wondering about what will happen later on. That is great because it gives belief in the film and that people will like it.
splatgoblin
What primary target audience do you think it's appropriate for? What secondary target audience (if appropriate)?? e.g. Psychographic profile -appealing to any particular personality type (like reformers or mainstreamers etc), values, attitudes, interests, or lifestyles? What about in terms of demographics - age and gender? Socioeconomic background? After this taster... DO YOU WANT TO SEE THE REST?!??!?!

simonrees5

Very Guy Ritchie! Tthere are so many cockney gezza movies out there and they are so easy to get wrong, but this one is off to a good start...

Very happy to hear that people believe in the film and liked the opening which means a lot as opening is a very important part of the film and it has been approved in this comment.
tuncelg
reminds of guy ritchie's openings and style. cool. the narrator's voice could have been calmer but works overall..

Many people refer to Guy Ritchie so that is good that people see that because we were basing our thriller on his working style.

hurtwoodhousemedia
very good editing. i really like how you edited the credits and used lots of jump cuts, kept you interested. the fast pace of it too adds to being engaging. I do think the last section when he is talking is a bit unessesary and it would have worked better if you stopped it before. but its still good.

Very nice o hear that the editing was good and people enjoyed it. The whole time we were trying to make the walking bit as fast as we could but because the opening should have been roughly 2 minutes that means that we needed to include that bit even though we tried to cut it as soon as the fast shots finishes.

Marked as spam
the way the people are animated is clever and resembles some of guy ritchies films quite heavily.

We were using Guy Ritchies films for inspiration and this comment is a complement as that means that we have expressed our selves correct and people can see that.

Evaluation of the Exchange.

1)
In what ways does your Product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

The Product mainly leads you up to an a Exchange and how it is done. Briefly speaking there is a young man that is very exited about getting a chance to show him self in front of a big guy (mobster) who is willing to give him a job in other words opening a way for the younger man to get better and more important in this business.
There are two other films which are out and very successful that our Product similar to or were we have got our ideas from.
-Lock Stock and two smoking barrels – All the fast scenes and action was mainly the inspiration form that film and it gave our Product a quick and exiting meaning which audience like and that what intrigues the audience.
-Snatch was another film that had gave us ideas to make our film and what way to work. This was a great idea because both of these films are very popular with the audience so that means the distribution of the film will be easier as audience excepts this kind of thrillers therefore people know what they are going to watch.
There is also a last film that we have looked in to get some ideas form and it is Lucky Number Slevin.
The reason for that was Due to budget restrictions we couldn’t show the female character (named WIN) who is a relative (possibly adopted ) of “The Drill’s”.
The Character of Win would be represented as being from an Asian or any other different back ground and function as challenge to the conventions of a U.K. heist thriller (Snatch, Lock Stock ). So talking of Lucky Number Slevin talking about Lucy Lui ( and in that film she was a Asian woman who helps to solve the plots and mysteries)

2)
How does your Media Product Represent Social Groups?

There are seven characters in our piece. All of them are men. Three of which were outside the school one of them was a aged man. In our film he was the boss(mobster) called “The Drill” second man was the bodyguard protecting The Drill and the third professional actor from outside school was the man character that was trying to get the job. Other four actors were people from our school because of lack of money and time we couldn’t find any other way to film but to use non professional actors which still were great in our sequence. Its is mainly characters from middle class the ones that are the older ones but the younger ones might be thought of as from the poorer backgrounds as they are trying to work their way up by serving and working for a big man as boxers.
Also representing the white race because showing Europe and it is mostly common to see white people in this type of films.
The three main characters are wearing suits in order to represent the higher status and social status of the men. Although the boxers were dressed in sport clothes in order to show that they are training and working out and to represent the hard work and that they are tough and can work their work to the top by boxing and serving to the boss.
In our piece there are mainly not speaking there is music through the opening and only by the end of the sequence the main character explains what exactly is happening. His voice tone represents his middle class and that he really wants this job in order to go up in social status and become a more important figure in his life.
One important representative on our film was the actual mobster (The Drill) so in order to point out that he is the man and he is important we have made sure he was sitting in the chair and everything was made around him in order to suite him and not anyone else. So showing the Big Boss in a arm chair and the bodyguard that does the rest of the job for him. The reason for having the mobster in was in order to show the way mobster does his business and dirty money. Representing him shows the audience the main focus of the film and were to mainly look for the hints to understand and follow the story of the film.
We could of done a different representation for example we could of represented the important bits of the mobster in order to show the key parts of the Drill.

3)
What kind of Media Institution might distribute your Media Product and why ?

Our Thriller is an Independent Low budget film. The reasons for that is that we are doing it in our school and there is no way we could of made a higher budget as it was done from our own pocket and the bits and peaces that school could of provided us with.
So therefore our sequence is cheap in making although the camera and the equipment we were using were very expensive they were given to us by school. The locations we have used were in school because we were only given one day to film it and there was no way we could of hired other places and had enough time to film it all in different parts. Although the locations were classrooms and the toilet I still believe it was a great lay out and we have done our best in order to make our thriller as perfect as we could of done.
There was no actual advertising or marketing of your film because we didn’t have the finances to do that or there was no point as the rest of the film is not being made. So the only possible way to advertise our product was to tell people and then they would spread the word and therefore people would find our about your production.

Although if we could of found more money to pump into our product in order to finish it completely then more institutes would have been interested in our film so then needing to do the promotion we could of used all sorts of this such as internet for loads of people to read it form the internet as majority of population that watch films use the internet. Also promotion in places like the actual cinema would help a lot as people that definitely are interested in the films are able to see and realise that our film is coming out and what it is about.
United Kingdom Distribution Companies would be particularly interested in distributing our product as there are not enough British films and therefore that would be a great reason and opportunity to release a film that might be very successful with the audience. So interested in the product Companies would try to get the film on their side in order to make sure British film industry rises and becomes more important and meaning in the world of cinema.

4)
Who would be the Audience for your Media Product ?

The Rating on our production that I would put would be 15 and over. The reasons for that are if we were to do a film further on there would be much more swearing, violence and horror. That would be the rating of 15 on the National level as it is very hard to get allowance for such films with your audience to be allowed to watch it.
But the Local authorities may change the rating as they think it is appropriate so we will have no control on the rating of our film in UK (Local authorities).

The distribution will be quite hard to do as we don’t know any famous and fancy companies that might help us and therefore it might be a bit of a trick to get it into the cinemas in order for people to actually watch it. Some Uk films wait a year or more after they are finished before even getting onto a screen because they have to compete with lots of cheap USA content that is shown in cinemas - the mostly vertically integrated (producing, marketing and distributing their own USA content) system of cinemas here in the UK means that multiplex places like ODEON
show their own films becuase they make more profit from the ticket sales .

So when we actually do have our film released on the cinema screens. So we will probably have the film on in cinemas for quite a while.

We probably have 3 days to make an impact over a weekend in small niche/arthouse cinemas like Brighton's Duke of York if we are to make any money, or just to cover production costs. (This niche cinema shows a lot of budding talent on the stage and screen )

Then in around 6 months we shall release it on the DVD in order for people then to buy it and have it at their house to watch. I recon that is quite good way of distributing our film because by that the audience will not get board from the film and they will have time to forget some bits about it and then demand it more in between the time of cinema and DVD release.

5)
How did ways you can attract your audience and a very big factor is the advertising. You may have many different ideas in order to sell your film more and get more loyal audience. First of all you can release some soundtrayou attract / address your audience?

There are different cks that will attract the audience and other people that haven’t seen the film but heard the soundtrack will want to watch the film in order to know the whole story. There is other ways of marketing such as Viral marketing it is also a great way of advertising although it is more specific harder to make and it may be expensive. A good example of that is websites. If you make websites referring to the film that will give audience a way to intervene with the film more. That would lead to a more loyal audience because they will love the film, they will be waiting for the next one and also that will also mean most of them will want to buy things such as t-shirts, games etc anything that is relevant to the film. Also if the main actors that are the most influence on the rest of the audience they might as well have a website of their own such as Bebo of Facebook. That will give people more chance to communicate with the actual figure them self’s and that will gain more loyal audience. People that like internet and are visiting websites such as youtube. If you upload some clips or even the sequence on the youtube that will be another great way of attracting audience because people that see the clip may then look it up read about the film get interested in it and either go to the cinema or even buy a DVD

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

The first thing we have learnt was the camera work. We had a special lesson on practical work with the camera. First of all learning all the technological words and the names of all parts of the camera, further on we have gained the skills how to actually use the camera, we came out of the class room and were given a storyboard that we needed to stick to in order to video the sequence. After that we had the preliminary task which I have spoken about previously and that was the first time we actually had put our skills into practice.
After actually shooting the film the most important thing was to edit the actual film to make it perfect and make it exactly what we wanted. So in order to do that we needed to learn about Final Cut Pro as we were using it to edit the film. Many things that were needed to be learned about the program because many different ways of how to do something and also millions of different choices of different effects and extras. Using Final Cut Pro wasn’t easy it took us a very long time to complete the video and make it to what we wanted. It taken us a while to get used to the way it worked such as you needed to put the Input and Output then cut it and make it a new slide. After that all we needed to put the slides over each other so they didn’t overlap or other way it wouldn’t show everything we wanted. All the special effect were very hard to make such as cutting the pictures changing the color and then freezing them in different positions at different angles and with all type of writing such as credits. That all took a long time because we needed to use a different program called After effects. This is completely opposite the final cut pro and learning that again was hard for the whole group. Also a very important part of our thriller was the soundtrack and voice over. The voice over was made on the day of the actual shooting day. So we had one of the actors doing the voice over while we wrote what to say on the paper and passed it to the character. The soundtrack was also needed to be done in order to suite the fast shots and sequences so we needed to make our own music because no music could be taken from any were else as it is all privatized and has rights.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in theprogression from it to the full product?

The first proper time we have used a camera was when we were filming our preliminary task. The whole class had been split into groups of 4 people in each group. In our group filming I was the camera man. So I had to put the camera up , make sure that everything is working and listen to the command of the director. We also had 2 actors a female and a male actor. There was a storyboard that we had to stick to in order to make sure that we can do all the types of shots and angles of the camera and also making sure that we know what it feels like on the actual shooting day. So shooting the sequence and practicing that gave us an idea of what it looks like and feels. Looking back at the video and the day there were many things that should have been done before the actual day many things were needed to be improved. The preparation is very important because when we were doing the preliminary task it took us a while to organize everything , put it all in place and shoot it. So we learned that it was crucial that we did that before the 12th of January the day of actual shoot.
When preparing for the real shoot day it took us a long time to make up the story board, to decide the angles at which the camera would take the shot . Also the actors preparation was important. We needed to have many preview runs through the sequence before we shot it in order to make it perfect. We needed to put the lightning in so the video would look professional and with good lightning. If there was a way we could go back to the preliminary task I would make sure that we went through everything and rehearsed everything before so now it would better then it is. Also if we could come back to the actual shooting day that would also change the thriller a bit more. May be we would get more shots of the fighting and shots of the character getting ready and also the actual exchange. That would help us with the editing because there would be more shots that could be put in and it would look better with the fast sequence that we already have.

INSTITUTIONS - UK FILM COUNCIL WOULD PRODUCE OUR FILM

Targeting audiences

1) The BBFC is the British Board of Film Classification. It was set up in 1912 to try and decide on a suitable rating system for film.
2) When a relatively complete assessment of a person or group's psychographic make-up is constructed, this is called a psychographic profile. Psychographic profiles are used in market segmentation as well as in advertising.
3) A demographic or demographic profile is a term used in marketing and broadcasting, to describe a demographic grouping or a market segment. This typically involves age bands (as teenagers do not wish to purchase denture fixant), social class bands (as the rich may want different products than middle and lower classes and may be willing to pay more) and gender (partially because different physical attributes require different hygiene and clothing products, and partially because of the male/female mindsets).
A demographic profile can be used to determine when and where advertising should be placed so as to achieve maximum results. In all such cases, it is important that the advertiser get the most results for their money, and so careful research is done to match the demographic profile of the target market to the demographic profile of the advertising medium.
4) Viral marketing and viral advertising refer to marketing techniques that use pre-existing social networks to produce increases in brand awareness or to achieve other marketing objectives (such as product sales) through self-replicating viral processes, analogous to the spread of pathological and computer viruses. It can be word-of-mouth delivered or enhanced by the network effects of the Internet.[1] Viral promotions may take the form of video clips, interactive Flash games, advergames, ebooks, brandable software, images, or even text messages. The basic form of viral marketing is not infinitely sustainable.

There are many things that were done to the last minute on your shoot day. Our shoot was on Monday the 12th January. A lot of things such as props and pits for the actual scene had to be brought and put up on the morning of the shoot just before the start.
First of all we started shooting in room 11.These scene mean to show a mobster sitting in a chair looking out of the window at his boxers while another man comes in and though the body guard the exchange had been made. In this shot we have used props such as black cloth to black out the floor, black outs to cover and close the walls, lights in order to change the lighting and it looked like a different place and not like a class room, we also used an arm chair that the mobster sat in, a side table which was quite small and had a bottle of whisky (tea) and a half filed glass, we also used a camera, tripod and all the extras in order to film.
One of my jobs was to find the actors so first of all because we had a different idea I found various people to be in our opening scene moving on our idea changes constantly so I was harder and harder to find the actors that would be perfect for the role. First of all because it was coming closer and closer to the shooting day and most other classes and groups were filming approximately at the same time we couldn’t take the same actors so many of them were already asked and taken, another reason is because in out opening scene we need the actors to look professional and old this is quite tricky to find at school so we came to a solution and the boxers in our film were the students that looked older then the other lot and could be shown as professional boxer and the three man that were playing in the exchange bit were brought in by Bex (our media studies teacher)
Well the toilet bit was different to what I have expected and in fact I believe it looks much more realistic professional and nicer In the end then I have thought it would look and I am glad we have changed that bit in the toilet and it went the way it have.
The were a number of bits I thought went well in the shooting such as the toilet scene I think it looks very realistic and gives us a great idea of what is happening and a good introduction to a film, also I believe the acting was brilliant as the actors in the exchange scene were old enough to play the roles and also looked perfect for their actual role ion the film. So I think the acting was good also the location of the exchange was very helpful because it was fairly dark and therefore gave a suspicion and made people wonder what is going on in the film.
Although there are some greats bits there are also things that didn’t go as well as it might of gone. I am talking about the boxing scene. As much as I believe we had some great actors and a good idea which was released and brought up quite well I think the only thing that have put us down is the location, because we couldn’t use the room we thought we will use originally it wasn’t as great. First of all it was quite light and didn’t give such and intention and also it was a class room and in many bits you could see the school boards and the tables which might confuse the audience and not give them such a clear idea of our performance.
If we had another chance of filming I reckon I would only change one bit and this is the day of the shoot. I would try to get a day were there is no heavy raining because I believe it would be a great idea to shoot the boxing scene outside. It would give and idea of the boxers being very tuff and hard because they would be training outside in a cold environment witch would make them more aggressive.
