Preliminary Filming task!!!

In our Preliminary Film task i was the camera man. My job was to listen to the director and make sure i do everything she tells me and record all the bits that are asked by director to be recorded. There were some bits that went well and not so well. I believe the 180 degrees role went well and had been successfully completed , also the actors had done completed their task and had acted realistically. Although there weren't enough props to pass the idea further to the audience. Next time it could be done better by doing the storyboard bit better also letting the actors have a rehearsal before the actual shoot and make sure that props are there to show what the film actually is trying to show. Also because this was the first time next would be definitely much better as everyone would be more experienced and learn on their faults.

We have started our Preliminary Filming task on Friday the 10th October. We had a group of 4 people Will-actor, Poppy-actor, Ariana-director and Nik-camera man.
We had a certain way we had to film the scenes and we had to follow it quite accurately. But we could use different actors and different ideas to match the sequence .
Of course there were different strengths and weaknesses. The was some good acting from both the actor and actress which have helped us a lot. Although we didn’t know exactly the story board and didn’t have that many equipment which didn’t let us express the sequence that well.
So the next time we would do it there would be some changes, first of all the camera work would be better as that would be my second time filming and I would know what to do better, also the actors would need to rehears and then they would know exactly what to do and how to act. So the point of the preliminary task would have been shown from a better perspective.

Practical lesson using FUJI FINEPIX S900 Digital Camera

On our Practical lesson with digital camera we had some time to go around school and take some pictures. we had to take a close up (C.U) a mid shot (M.S) and long shot (L.S). I worked in a pair with Will.

First of all we took a close up.As you can see from the picture on the left we did a C.U of a shoe. Most important thing about C.U is focus. you need to make sure that the camera is perfectly focused on the object that you are taking a shot of.

Second we did a Mid shot (M.U). Mid shot is from waist up to your head. So a good example of this is the picture below.

Checking wide balance is also very important in order to make a correct mid Shot. In addition to all these light exposure had to be checked constantly so the right amount of light was focused on the main subject.

The last task we had is to do a Long Shot (L.S). Long shot means that you take a shot of the whole person. For example as you can see from the picture on the right the photo should b taken from head to toes. Before taking the shot you need to make sure that you zoom in then you focus on the person and later on you zoom out in order to take the picture. It is important that you have head space. If you don't have any head space then your picture will look quite stupid as it will look like your photo had been cut, or it could mean that you don't really know how to use the camera properly.
Looking space.
Looking space is important because when you see how the person on the picture is looking and were they are looking this gives you an idea of the photo or tells you abit about the theme.
Rule of Third.
If you think of your picture as a square and imagine if it is cut into 9 equal squares. The middle square is the HOT POINT.What i mean by this is you base your shot on the main subject which might be a person or any other object so this (hot point) gives you as clue were to look and Whit to focus on. So you immediately focus your attention around the point.

Why I chose Media ?

There are quite a lot of reasons why I have chosen Media Studies !!
First of all I do 3 other subjects which are quite academic. So I thought that it would be a great idea to have some other subject that will cheer me up and make me more positive. I thought that Media would be a great choice. To be honest I was expecting different stuff. I thought it is less work and its basically watching films and analysing them , but when I had couple of first lessons it was very different.
Its is actually much more exiting. I do admit it is quite hard for me because of my English. What I really enjoy is camera work. I wouldn’t mind acting as well but I don’t think I will succeed in that. So I am happy with the camera man job.
